The National Wallace Monument Monument to William Wallace (1270-1305) Scotland's national hero. Defeated the English army at Stirling (1297) and later captured and executed in 1305. Wallace’s story was made even more famous in the film Braveheart starring Mel Gibson. The monument is open to the public with spectacular views from the top of the 220 ft tower. |

Stirling Castle At the head of Stirling’s historic old town, and considered by many to be the grandest of all Scotland’s castles. The castle has strong links with Mary Queen of Scots who was crowned in the chapel in 1543 and her son the future James VI was baptised here in 1566. |

King Robert The Bruce (1274-1329) Proclaimed King of Scots after the execution of Wallace. Defeated the English army of Edward II at the Battle of Bannockburn (1314) This statue can be seen at the battlefield site where the visitor centre is open to the public. |
